Bird Trip at Boyce Thompson Arboretum

September 24, 2021

Bird trip: Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Superior AZ

Date: Friday, September 24, 2021—7:30 AM

Leader: Andrée Tarby

Trip Description: Walk the trails of this lovely facility including the new Wallace Garden area.  The Arboretum dodged a cannonball in the Telegraph Fire and the storms and flooding that followed.  The picnic area is still closed but there is a patio area behind the Visitors’ Center which will be available.

The bad news is that BTA is no longer a state park.  Admission is now $15 for non-members.

Activity Level: Mostly level walking, benches available along the trails.

What to Bring: Binoculars, camera, water, packed lunch or snacks. hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and masks.  The Arboretum requires masks in all visitor service locations including entrance and restrooms, and anytime the trails are crowded.  SAS observes the US CDC COVID protocols.

Meeting Location: Carpool and/or caravan arrangements pending.  Please contact Andrée Tarby (602) 421-9425 or [email protected].

To Register: Contact Andrée Tarby (602) 421-9425 or [email protected].  Limit of 8 people, preferably no more than 3 cars.  Call for help with carpooling.

Please be reminded of COVID protocol from the US CDC as SAS will be observing these measures: go to the latest guidance for personal vehicles at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/using-transportation.html#PersonalVehicles. Generally said, on SAS in-person Field Trips, share rides with your family and/or others who have been fully vaccinated. For those who are not fully vaccinated, for everyone’s comfort, drive yourself; if not fully vaccinated but are car-pooling, mask up and maintain social distancing.  For the un-vaccinated, the CDC says “get vaccinated”; for those in between 2-shot vaccination protocols and therefore not fully immunized, continue to mask up for these SAS Field Trips. And, for all of us, make sure your vehicle has good ventilation.
