SONORAN AUDUBON MEMBER MEETING
November 7 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Sonoran Audubon Special Members’ Meeting
Thursday, November 7, 2024
6:00 PM to 7:30 PM
Peoria Community Center
8335 W. Jefferson St, Peoria, AZ 85345
Open to all Sonoran Audubon Society Friends and Family Members
and Friends of Friends!
Guests at this Special Members’ Meeting are SAS’ 2022, 2023 and
2024 Western Yellow Billed Cuckoo Survey Interns! You’ll hear
about their adventures learning about and counting these wonderful
birds on the Upper Agua Fria River, at Tres Rios in PHX and at other
sites in our part of Arizona.
Our itrepid young interns count these birds on the hottest days of the
year—from mid-June through August— when Cuckoos arrive in AZ to
build their nests and raise young. Bob McCormick, former SAS
Board President and SAS Important Bird Area Coordinator and Tim
Flood, long time SAS member and leader of the Upper Agua Fria
River Annual Wet Dry Mapping surveys, are the senior guides and
leaders for SAS’ interns.
SAS’ outreach to conservation science majors and recent college
graduates through these internships is resulting in their participation
with SAS and other AZ Audubon chapters. SAS always appreciates
interns’ and others’ input to make this effort better and more far-
reaching. We hope you’ll join us! —Sincerely, the SAS Board.

This sign up is especially important so that we have a people count
for a correctly-sized room at the Peoria Community Center. Thanks!
NOTE: The event is SAS’ only members’ INDOOR meeting in
person in 2024. Please open your Constant Contact e mails or refer
to the SAS’ website calendar (at
https://sonoranaudubon.org/calendar/ )for other events, bird walks
and volunteer opportunities at Tres Rios Nature Festival in February
2025.
….and for your information, SAS’ Fall Picnic and Bird Walks at
Horseshoe Ranch on October 26th was a resounding success with
20+ folks attending. The bird list is being prepared and will be on E
Bird. “McBob” was our bird walk guide along the Upper Agua Fria
River. And, around the Ranch itself there are always “good birds”.
SAS will return to Horseshoe Ranch for the Spring Picnic and Bird
Walks—we are aiming for MIGRATION!! Stay tuned for this event and
other special birding events in the new year….
