DESCRIPTION:Bubbling Ponds / Paige Springs \nSaturday\, November 9th\, 2024 \n9:00 AM 2:00 PM \nBubbling Ponds and Paige springs Fish Hatchery with Robert McCormick and Tina Greenawalt \nPage Springs Fish Hatchery and Bubbling Ponds is operated by The Arizona Game and Fish Department and is open to the public. Several open ponds are lined with old Cottonwood and Sycamore trees which support a rich diversity of riparian bird species. Both of these sites are parts of the Lower Oak Creek Important Bird Area (IBA). E-bird lists 268 species that have been observed. Check the website for recent sightings. https://ebird.org/hotspot/L266621 \nWe will start on Black-hawk trail at Bubbling Ponds which has 2 wildlife viewing platforms\, a large ramada\, and is 1.8 miles complete with pleasant sitting areas throughout. We will also make a hike to the river to see what is here. We will then make the short drive south to Paige Springs Fish Hatchery for lunch and another hike. \nBubbling Ponds is located approximately 10 miles south of Sedona and 10 miles north of Cottonwood on Page Springs Road. The best access is from Interstate 17. Take the McGuirville exit (exit 293)\, turn west for approximately 10 miles to Cornville\, AZ.; turn north on Page Springs Road for 5.5 miles to hatchery entrance. \nhttps://www.azgfd.com/fishing-2/hatcheries-fisheries-management/fish-hatcheries/bubbling-ponds-hatchery/ \nStart at 9:00am and wrap up about 2:00pm. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, November 17: Buckeye/Arlington. Thanks to Sonoran Audubon Society’s own Donna Smith and Kathy Dashiell there’s a great route around Buckeye and Arlington\, west of Phoenix\, through agricultural fields that is reliable for burrowing owls and diurnal raptors\, sparrows and common desert species\, plus waterfowl at canals and farm ponds. This is a long morning\, starting at 7am at a meeting spot to be determined just off the I-10 and wrapping up perhaps 1ish. Lunch plans to be determined. Mostly car birding. Limited to 7 participants. Please register with Kathe Anderson at Kathe.coot@cox.net . Registration will be open to Sonoran Audubon members exclusively until Nov 3. Difficulty 1. Meeting place and carpooling logistics will be determined a few days before the trip.
