Sonoran Audubon Society

SAS Monthly Meeting March 2017

March 8, 2017 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
West Valley Unitarian Universalist Church
5904 West Cholla Street
Glendale, AZ 85304

Join your friends and fellow birders to enjoy Hawaii’s Birds in this presentation by Dominic Sherony.  Guests are always welcome for social time at 6:30 PM and the SAS bookstore collection may be open for browsing.

Recently, the ABA has added the birds of the Hawaiian Islands to its “ABA List”. This might encourage more birders to develop an interest in this distant island chain. The birds and plants of Hawaii are remarkable and the birds have adapted to the unusual plant communities. In approaching the subject of the birds as an overview, Dominic will cover the background, history and a few of the interrelationships of five groups of birds: introduced species, endemic passerines, other endemic birds, shorebirds, and seabirds.

Observing birds as living organisms has always interested Dominic. He is retired after thirty-one  years with Xerox Corporation in management and engineering and has been an active birder  since 1971. In retirement, he has applied his interests in analysis to birding questions and  published several papers. He was a regional coordinator with Robert Spahn for the 2000 NYS Breeding Bird Atlas and was a member of the NYS Avian records Committee for eleven years!
Sonoran Audubon is very fortunate that Dominic is an avid birder in our area and delights in doing programs for his fellow enthusiasts!
