You are invited to attend the upcoming SAS Chapter meeting on Wednesday, January 11th (7 PM at the Glendale UU Church, Cholla at 59th Avenue) to learn about the potential plans for a Wildlife Viewing Platform at the “Glendale Recharge Ponds,” the official name of which is: “NEW RIVER-AGUA FRIA RIVER UNDERGROUND STORAGE PROJECT” — NAUSP.”
Your Chapter Board, under the able leadership of Jim Consolloy, Carol Beardmore and Tom Lazzelle, along with Tice Supplee from Audubon Arizona, has been working for many months to develop a credible proposal for City of Glendale. We have met with many entities with contractual interests in the “Ponds” as a significant water resource for the Valley and have had the assistance of an excellent architect–Phil Weddle–to help us visualize and conceptually design such a structure. We have had several recent meetings with City of Glendale that have highlighted how, now, our Chapter’s project is at a crossroads….
The Chapter has a decision to make– whether to proceed with an offer from City of Glendale on a proposed site for this structure. We would like to brief Chapter Friends and Members on this project and what decision is required and what the consequences would be. We will project on screen our architect’s excellent sketches so everyone can get up to speed on the project idea.
Second, a continuing discussion on revisions to the SAS by laws will take place. A next draft will be provided at the meeting that you can take with you to study. There will be no decisions but feedback will be encouraged.
Your Board of Directors encourages all of you interested in birding in the West Valley to attend next week’s meeting!
