Tres Rios has changed a lot since you were probably last there.  The old sites on the west and east sides of South 91st Avenue (one was called the Hayfield Site) are both closed.  The trip now requires a permit from the City of Phoenix for each car.  Contact: heather.finden@phoenix.gov or call 602-495-7477.  Allow at least 5 days for processing.  The permit and instructions are sent by email.

To get to the parking lot for the wetlands one goes south on 91st Avenue from Broadway or Southern and parking is on the west side of the street north of Baseline Road and the Salt River.  Last year I saw Blue-winged Teal, White Pelican, White-faced Ibis, Black-tailed Gnatcatcher, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Green Heron, Peregrine Falcon, Beaver, Bobcat.

Meeting time is 7:30 a.m. at the parking area.  This is a morning trip.  No lunch is necessary.

Maximum limit:  15 people.

Trip difficulty: 2 to 3 miles (level 2).  Bring a scope if you don’t mind carrying it for three miles.
