Glendale Recharge Ponds are know as one of Maricopa County’s premier birding site. The six large basins, in varying stages of water volume for groundwater recharge, invite thousands of ducks, egrets, herons, white pelicans and hundreds of shorebirds; sandpipers, pipits, stilts and dowitchers abound. We have recorded more than 50 species at this time of the year. This facility is maintained by SRP (Salt River Project) in cooperation with Glendale and Peoria.

We will meet first at the Dust Devil Park parking area, closest to the restrooms. Come earlier than 8 a.m. to bird this area with us, and arrange some carpools if necessary. Parking is limited now at the ponds due to new road construction on the bridge side of the ponds. Plan to walk around 2 or 3 of the ponds, all on level, sandy roads. Bring water, binocs, sun screen and a scope if you have one.
