Have you ever picked up a rock to throw at someone, then said wait—-where did this object I am about to hurl come from? How old is it? What is it made of? Is it useful in any other way??
Now you have a chance to find out. Join us Saturday at the Cave Creek Park Nature Center to hear about those solid things that make up the mountains, are crushed to obtain gold, silver, talc, are used to build the pyramids and the Sear’s tower. Joe Ford will instruct you in how to identify the major rock types and even list some uses for these objects composed of minerals. Following some class instruction the group will go into the field and try to identify specimens that dominate the land along some of the park trails.
Following the rock identification lab, a powerpoint program
