On Thursday Marge Eckman, Gerry Horton, Ann McDermott and Donna Smith arrived at White Tanks Mountain Park and found two large conventions that were taking place at the park. The first, the Gambels Quail convention, was the loudest with many members in attendance. The second, the Morning Dove convention, had more members but they were quieter. It was here a chi-ca-co-co; here a coo-coo; everywhere a chi-ca-co-co, chi-ca-co-co, coo-coo-coo.

While walking along, we heard a beautiful trilling song and we started looking for the bird when Ann McDermott told us that is was the song of the Harris' Antelope Squirrel. It was setting on a rock singing away. Other wildlife seen was a Mule Deer and Jackrabbits. Rain started to fall just as we were leaving, cooling us off, a perfect ending.

The 21 birds seen or heard were the Red-tailed Hawk, Turkey Vulture, Gambels Quail (1000's), Morning Dove (1000's), White-winged Dove, Gila Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Ash-throated Flycatcher, Loggerhead Shrike, Verdin, Cactus Wren, Canyon Wren (H), Black-tailed Gnatcatcher, Northern Mockingbird, Curve-billed Thrasher, European Starling, Phainopepla, Canyon Towhee, Black-throated Sparrow, Brown-headed Cowbird(H), and House Finch.
