It was a beautiful morning when we all gathered at Tres Rios for a spectacular birding adventure.  There were 19 of us who either car-pooled from Sun City or came from other areas to meet just at dawn at the entrance to Tres Rios Wetlands.

The water was flowing on the right side of the road leading to the parking area making a marvelous swampy area where hundreds of water birds and ducks were having a field day and we did too.  As we approached, approximately a 100 Snowy and Cattle egrets took off from the surrounding trees and then a small flock of White-faced Ibis joined them.  We knew we were in for a great morning.

As we traversed the trails and ponds, most of us had very good looks at some very nice birds like the Eurasian collared-Dove, Wilson's Snipe and Mountain Plover.  I've been to Tres Rios many times and these were a first time spotting for me at this site.

All in all, 56 species were seen.  They were Gadwell, American Widgeon, Mallard, Cinnamon Teal, Northen Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal, Ring-necked Duck, Ruddy Duck, Pied-billed Grebe, Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Cattle Egret, Black-crowned Night-Heron, White-faced Ibis, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture, Osprey, Northern Harrier, Red-tailed Hawk, Sora, Common Moorhen, American Coot, Killdeer, Mountain Plover, Greater Yellowlegs, Western Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Long-billed Dowitcher, Wilson's Snipe, Eurasian Collared-Dove, Mourning Dove, Greater Roadrunner, Burrowing Owl, Anna's Hummingbird, Gilded Woodpecker, Gila Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Black Phoebe, Say's Phoebe, Tree Swallow, Verdin, Marsh Wren, Black-tailed Gnatcatcher, European Starling, Orange-crowned Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon's), Common Yellow-throat, Abert's Towhee, Song Sparrow, White-corned Sparrow, Brewer's Blackbird, Great-tailed Grackle and Lesser Goldfinch.

The attendees were Diana Barnum, Bob Cirillo, Marshall Esty, Shirley Fackleman, Jed Fulkerson, Darlene Gatto, Luanne Hanks, Gerry Horton, Marilyn McMahon, Barbara Meding, Stewart & Liz Morris, Chuck & Loretta Richards, Clara Mae Ryder, Rich Schooler, Donna Smith, Sam Stearman, Annie Teff and George Wall - leader.

A reporter from the Arizona Magazine, Adam Klawonn, joined the trip and took pictures for a future article.
