Thunderbird Park

Thunderbird Park is in Glendale on the north end of 59th Avenue. Participants were: Marshall Esty, Vera Markham, Carol Maroney, Carolyn Modeen, Betty Roberts, Donna Smith, Helen-Jean Story, George Wall and George Nation who led the trip.

Birds seen were Pied-billed Grebe, Ruddy Duck, Canada Goose, American Wigeon,Mallard, Ring-necked Duck, Hooded Merganser, Common Merganser, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Green Heron, Black-crowned Night-Heron, American Coot, Killdeer, Rock Dove, Mourning Dove, Costa’s Hummingbird, Belted Kingfisher, Gila Woodpecker, Say’s Phoebe, Northern Mockingbird, European Starling, Verdin, White-crowned Sparrow and Great-tailed Grackle.

On the way back, one carload added the Ring-billed Gull, Northern Shoveler and Abert’s Towhee to the above list. Donna Smith reported that on the way home she saw a couple of Eurasian Wigeon mixed in with American Wigeon at the pond by Bell and Cotton.
