Stoneman Lake had a pleasant surprise for us this trip; it really was a lake full of water. Eared Grebes were beautiful in full breeding plumage and American Coots were setting on nests. We spotted a Virginia's Warbler in the brush and Black-headed Grosbeaks were all through the trees.

Red-faced Warblers, Audubon's Warblers, and Western Bluebirds were seen at Bill Back Pond. However we were concerned because the birds were not in abundance, only a few of each species.

The day was overcast and cool, in the 70's, and we enjoyed the comfortable temperatures. Phoenix was 100 degrees and sunny!

Birders: Eleanor Campbell, Chuck Richard, Al and Nancy Woods, Donna Smith, Leader.

Birds: Eared Grebe, Mallard, Turkey Vulture, Red-tailed Hawk, American Kestrel, American Coot, Bandtailed Pigeon, White-winged Dove, Mourning Dove, Broad-tailed Hummingbird, Acorn Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Downy Woodpecker, Western Wood-Pewee, Black Phoebe, Say's Phoebe, Steller's Jay, Western Scrub-Jay, Common Raven, Violet-green Swallow, Bushtit, White-breasted Nuthatch, House Wren, Western Bluebird, American Robin, Northern Mockingbird, Virginia's Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon's), Grace's Warbler, Red-faced Warbler, Chipping Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, Blackheaded Grosbeak, Red-winged Blackbird, Brown-headed Cowbird, Bullock's Oriole, and Pine Siskin.
