The rain held off for us the morning of our trip. There was not much left of El Mirage pond, it is now dried up and fenced off. Hunters Pond had 100's of blackbirds and a large flock of Horned Larks. Along the dike at the end of Southern Avenue, we found a small flock of Lawrence's Goldfinches. They are always nice to see. The ponds off of Southern Avenue had grebes and ducks and lots of cormorants.

The 45 birds seen were Eared Grebe, Double-crested Cormorant, Neotropic Cormorant,
Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, White-faced Ibis, American Wigeon, Gadwall, Ring-necked Duck, Ruddy Duck, Northern Harrier, Red-tailed Hawk, Ferruginous Hawk, American Kestrel, Gambel’s Quail, American Coot, Common Moorhen, Rock Pigeon, Eurasian Collared Dove, Mourning Dove, Greater Roadrunner, Belted Kingfisher, Gila Woodpecker, Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Black Phoebe, Say’s Phoebe, Horned Lark, American Pipit, Common Raven, European Starling, House Sparrow, House Finch, Lawrence’s Goldfinch, Abert’s Towhee, Lark Sparrow, Savannah Sparrow, Whitecrowned Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco (Slate-colored), Red-winged Blackbird, Western Meadowlark, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Brewer’s Blackbird, Great-tailed Grackle and Brown-headed Cowbird.

Birders: Sam Stearman, Dick Fogle, Vera Markham, Barb Meding, Gerry Horton, Anne
