We drove around checking most of the ponds in this community. The day was sunny, but got cold (O.K. chilly by Chicago standards) when the winds started gusting in the late morning. We found most of our target birds except the scaup and merangsers and ended with a total of 34 species. Several of us enjoyed a nice lunch at Tuscana’s after the trip.

Participants: Two newcomers (welcome!), Carol and Rick Sharplin , Ian Jeffery, Betty Roberts, Doris Hill, Donna Smith, Ann McDermott, Gerry Horton, Bob Cirillo, and Barb Meding (leader).

Birds: Pied-billed Grebe, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Green Heron, Turkey Vulture, American Wigeon, Mallard, Northern Shoveler, Canvasback, Redhead, Ring-necked Duck, Common Goldeneye, Ruddy Duck, Osprey, Cooper’s Hawk, Gambel’s Quail, American Coot, Killdeer, Black-necked Stilt, Greater Yellowlegs, Spotted Sandpiper, Rock Pigeon, Mourning Dove, Burrowing Owl, hummingbird sp., Gila Woodpecker, Black Phoebe, Say’s Phoebe, Verdin, Northern Mockingbird, Curve-billed Thrasher, Yellow-rumped Warbler (Heard), Great-tailed Grackle, and House Sparrow.
