On a beautiful Saturday morning, 8 happy birds left at 7 a.m. for the ponds.  Attending were Vera Markham, Donna Smith, Darlene Gatto, Ian Jeffrey, Bob Cirillo, Marge Eckman and leader Dick Fogle.  We met Marge Popp of Mesa at the ponds.  She is temporarily here and belongs to an Audubon Society in Oregon.  She found our website and the scheduled trips.

On the fist pond we stopped at, the Pavilion Pond near the Target store, we were met with a large group of Hooded Mergansers, a Black-bellied Whistling Duck and a Greater White-fronted Goose.   What a nice way to start out the morning.

From there we went to a couple of different spots to view the birds on the lakes.  Before the morning was out, we saw 45 species.  They were: Black-bellied Whistling Duck, Greater White-fronted Goose, Canada Goose, American Wigeon, Mallard, Northern Shoveler, Ring-necked Duck, Hooded Merganser, Ruddy Duck, Pied-billed Grebe, Western Grebe, Neotropic Cormorant, Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Green Heron, Black-crowned Night-Heron, Osprey, Northern Harrier, Cooper's Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, American Coot, Killdeer, Black-necked Stilt, American Avocet, Spotted Sandpiper, Rock Pigeon, Mourning Dove, Belted Kingfisher, Gila Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Black Phoebe, Say's Phoebe, Warbling Vireo, Verdin, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Northern Mockingbird, European Starling, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Abert's Towhee, White-crowned Sparrow, Great-tailed Grackle, House Finch, Lesser Goldfinch and House Sparrow.
