What a great morning as Dick Fogle led George Wall, Marjorie Eckman (Maricopa Audubon Society) Ian Jeffery, and Tom Alderman a visitor from Michigan on a birding trip to Scottsdale. Our first stop was at the Pavilion Ponds where we saw 30 different species that included a Hooded Merganser. From there, we birded the McCormick Ranch Lakes. It was here we saw the Belted Kingfisher and the prize of the day - a Fulvous Whistling-Duck. George Wall even managed to get a couple of pictures of the uncommon duck to our area.

Altogether 39 species were seen and they were: Pied-billed Grebe, Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Green Heron, Fulvous Whistling-Duck, Ruddy Duck, Canada Goose, American Widgeon, Green-winged Teal, Mallard, Northern Shoveler, Ringnecked Duck, Hooded Merganser, Cooper’s Hawk, American Coot, Black-necked Stilt, Killdeer, Greater Yellowlegs, Spotted Sandpiper, Rock Dove, Mourning Dove, Anna’s Hummingbird, Belted Kingfisher, Gila Woodpecker, Black Phoebe, Say’s Phoebe, American Rock Wren, Northern Mockingbird, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Verdin, European Starling, White-crowned Sparrow, Lucy’s Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Lesser Goldfinch, House Sparrow and Great-tailed Grackle.

It's a shame more of you didn't join us as the weather was perfect for birding. We arrived back home before noon.
