Hassayampa River Preserve
November 8, 2002
By Eleanore Campbell
It was an
overcast day with poor light and occasional light rain which made some
of the trails very muddy. Nonetheless nine dedicated Sonoran Audubon
birders joined leader Lorraine Thompson for a search for birds at the
Nature Conservancy Preserve near Wickenburg which was open especially
for them.
The Red-shouldered Hawks that nested there were seen. Also seen were:
Pied-billed Grebe, Mallard, Cooper's Hawk, American Kestrel, Common
Moorhen, American Coot, White-winged Dove, Anna's Hummingbird, Gila
Woodpecker, Red-shafted Flicker, Black Phoebe, Scrub Jan, Verdin,
Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Audubon's Yellow-rumped Warbler, Abert's Towhee,
Song Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, Lincoln's Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco
(Oregon), House Finch, and a Marsh Wren was heard.
