Gilbert Water Ranch

The group got an early start despite the usual weekend construction on US 60.  The sun was up by the time we started birding and the day warmed up quickly.

The highlight of the trip was the sighting of the Streak-backed Oriole.  We looked hard for the Harris's Sparrow but to no avail.

All told the group sighted a total of 55 birds.  They were:  Pied-billed Grebe, Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Cattle Egret, Green Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron, White-faced Ibis, Turkey Vulture,  Canada Goose, Gadwall, Mallard, Cinnamon Teal, Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal, Ring-neck Duck, Ruddy Duck, Osprey, Gambel's Quail, American Coot, Killdeer, Black-necked Stilt, American Avocet, Greater Yellowlegs, Least Sandpiper, Long-billed Dowitcher, Common Snipe, Morning Dove, Peach-faced Lovebird, Greater Roadrunner, Anna's Hummingbird, Belted Kingfisher, Gila Woodpecker, Black Phoebe, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Verdin, Northern Mockingbird, Curve-billed Thrasher, European Starling, Phainopepla, Orange-crowned Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Abert's Towhee, White-crowned Sparrow, Northern Cardinal, Red-winged Blackbird, Great-tailed Grackle,  Blackbird sp, Streak-backed Oriole, House Finch, House Sparrow plus a fly over WWII B-17G.  (That's a World War II B-17 aircraft).
