Estrella Mountain Park, PIR Area and Tres Rios

Marshall Esty led the joint birding trip by Birders' Anonymous and Sonoran Audubon members which consisted of George Drew, John Gottfried, Vera Markham and George Wall to the Estrella Mountain Park area, P.I.R. area and Tres Rios.

We spent just a short time at each area and got back by 10am. It was perfect weather for birding and the birds didn't disappoint us.

Seen were Pied-billed Grebe, Double-crested Cormorant, Mallard, Snowy Egret, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Green Heron, Black-crowned Night-Heron, Least Bittern, Turkey Vulture, American Kestrel, Gambel's Quail, Common Moorhen, American Coot, Long-billed Dowitcher, Black-necked Stilt, Killdeer, Rock Dove, Mourning Dove, Common Ground Dove, Greater Roadrunner, Gila Woodpecker, Black Phoebe, Brown-crested Flycatcher, Northern Mockingbird, Curve-billed Thrasher, European Starling, Marsh Wren, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, House Sparrow, House Finch, Abert's Towhee, Northern Cardinal, Blue Grosbeak, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Redwinged Blackbird, Great-tailed Grackle and Brown-headed Cowbird - 39 species in all. Seen, but not identified, were Hummingbird and Kingbird species. Heard but not seen were Cactus Wren, Song Sparrow and Common Yellow-throat.
