Twelve Birders’ Anonymous and Sonoran Audubon Society members traveled to Cave Creek and Seven Springs for a morning of birding.

The group consisted of Eleanor Campbell – leader, Marshall Esty, Gerry Horton, Dean Leuhrs, Vera Markham, Chuck & Loretta Richards, Donna Smith, Kathy Thompson, Lorraine Thompson, George Wall and Nancy Woods.

The birds seen were Turkey Vulture, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Cooper’s Hawk, Zone-tailed Hawk, American Kestrel, Gambel’s Quail, Mourning Dove, Gila Woodpecker, Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Western Wood-Pewee, Cordilleran Flycatcher, Say’s Phoebe, Black Phoebe, Western Scrub Jay, Common Raven, Rock Wren, Verdin, Bushtit, Lesser Goldfinch, House Finch, Yellow Warbler, Wilson’s Warbler, Lark Sparrow, Black-throated Sparrow, Canyon Towhee, Hepatic Tanager, Summer Tanager, Western Tanager and Northern Cardinal.

After birding, we enjoyed a nice lunch on cement picnic tables in the shade. On the way out of Seven Springs, 3 of us saw several Phainopepla, 2 roadrunners and a Northern Flicker. It was a great day and most were back home by 1:30.
