This morning, 19 March, 2003, a group of 24 Birders’ Anonymous and Sonoran Audubon Society members went out to Badger Springs. George Wall led the group that included Chico Austin, Judy Burke, Eleanor Campbell, John Gottfried, Russ & Beth Hatfield, Kathy & Jerry Hobbs, Jean Irvin, Ian Jeffrey, Dale & Rosa Lee Litzenberger, Dean & Joan Luehrs, Vera Markham, Carolyn Modeen, Marilyn Poncey, Betty Roberts, Lee & Phyllis Rosander, Larry & Audrey Schander and Donna Smith.

We didn’t see a lot of birds (it will be better in about 3 weeks), but it was a beautiful morning for a nice walk. The 24 species we did see were Turkey Vulture, Red-tailed Hawk, American Kestrel, Gila Woodpecker, Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Black Phoebe, Common Raven, Phainopepla, Cactus Wren, Rock Wren, Verdin, Violet-green Swallow, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Lesser Goldfinch, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Lincoln’s Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, Chipping Bewick's Wren and the White-crowned Sparrow, Sparrow, Brewer’s Sparrow, Black-throated Sparrow, Canyon Towhee, and Northern Cardinal.

The group also enjoyed the very visible petroglyphs on the walls by the Aqua Fria River and the many wildflowers currently blooming.
