Theona Vyvial and Pat & Ken Phillips
Birding in Ecuador

Theona Vyvial, a birder and amateur photographer and Pat and Ken Phillips, not so beginning birders and great photographers, toured Ecuador in July 2006. They will be sharing LOTS of photos and stories from their tours of Northwest Ecuador, the Andes and the Napo Wildlife Center in the Amazon Basin. Some of the photos they will be sharing include LOTS of hummingbirds (they saw close to 50 species), numerous parrots, tanagers, owls, trogons, toucans and woodpeckers. Also seen and photographed were several rarely seen antpittas (they went to see the Antpitta  Whisperer!), the Cock of the Rock and the ancient appearing Hoatzin.  Come join us for an evening on the equator!

George Wall
Birding the Pantanal & Iguacu Falls in Brazil & Argentina

From August 31 to September 12, 2007, a group from our Sonoran Audubon Society (Anne Durning, Karen La France, Tice Supplee and George Wall) and four others from Arizona (Anita MacFarlane, Leroy and Kate Ellison and leader Dr. David Pearson), went to South America. Specifically Brazil and Argentina.  This was sponsored by Audubon Arizona and done through Field Guides.  Come out to this meeting and hear about this trip and the 309 species of birds seen or heard. There’s lots of photographs of Rio de Janeiro, Iguazu Falls and the Pantanal presented in a Power Point program that should whet your appetite to journey there yourselves.

Barb Winterfield
Birding in Florida

Barb is a Software Engineer and amateur birder. She became interested in birds growing up in Kansas. She would spend hours lying outside watching the huge flocks of birds migrate overhead in the fall. Her father taught her some of the local birds, but she didn't study them at that time. It wasn't until she moved to Arizona and visited Ramsey Canyon in 1991 that she and her husband became interested in birding.

They do the majority of their birding in the Phoenix
area and their state list is roughly 390. However, they have birded a fair amount in California, Kansas, Indiana, Illinois, and Florida. They have ventured outside the US but mostly on guided tours: Kenya, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Mexico.  She and her sister, Daniela, went on a birding trip in Southern Florida in June. The program that will be presented will mostly cover this trip.

"Hope Takes Wings" DVD Video

This program is a 56 minute video that was shown by Audubon Arizona in the theater as a fund raiser.  It's a great movie about the Whooping Crane, an endangered species.  If you haven't seen this video, you are in for a treat.
