Osprey

Description:  The dark eye stripe and white cap make this raptor distinctive. It also has dark back with white underside.

Diet:  It eats mainly fish, but will also eat rodents, birds and crustaceans.

Nesting:  Builds nest in trees near or above water, but also likes to build nest atop tall poles. Nest is made of sticks, sod, seaweed and general rubbish that can fit the area. They are monogamous and have 1 brood usually 2-4 eggs.

Range:  They are found along rivers, lakes and coasts. They are found all over the U.S., lower parts of Canada and winter all the way to Chile.

Note:  Osprey derives its name from the Latin ossifraga which means “bone breaker”. The maximum life span of an Osprey is 21 years.
